Brand Spotlight: Mina Shears
Mina Shears is the premium brand in the Scissor Lab portfolio — a line of professional scissors built around VG10 steel, convex edges, and ergonomic design. Where some brands cover every price point, Mina focuses on doing one thing well: delivering flagship-quality scissors for stylists who refuse to compromise.
The Range
Mina Pro Classic — The brand’s signature model and the most popular in the range. VG10 steel, convex edge, offset handle. Available in 5.5”, 6.0”, and 6.5”. This is the scissor Mina is known for: consistent, precise, and built to last under daily professional use. The offset handle reduces wrist rotation, and the convex edge glides through hair cleanly.
Mina Pro Crane — Built for stylists who prioritise ergonomics. The crane handle (an extreme offset) positions the thumb ring significantly lower than the finger ring, allowing the elbow to drop and the shoulder to stay relaxed during cutting. For stylists who spend eight or more hours a day at the chair, this handle geometry can make a meaningful difference over the course of a career. Available in 5.5”, 6.0”, 6.5”, and 7.0”. Same VG10 steel and convex edge as the Pro Classic.
Mina Slice — Mina’s thinning scissor. A 35-tooth micro-serrated blade in VG10 steel produces natural texture and movement without over-thinning. The lighter removal rate makes this an excellent tool for blending and finishing work on medium-to-fine hair. Available in 5.5” and 6.0”.
Mina Left Edition — A true left-handed version of the Pro Classic, not a mirror of a right-handed model. The blade geometry, edge orientation, and handle are all purpose-built for left-handed use. Available in 5.5”, 6.0”, and 6.5”. This is a point of particular pride for Mina: many brands offer “left-handed” scissors that are simply reversed. The Left Edition is a genuine left-hand tool.
Steel and Edge
All Mina Shears are made from VG10 Japanese steel, a high-quality alloy that offers excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance. The convex edge — known in Japanese as hamaguri-ba (“clam shell”) for the smooth curve of its profile — produces a cutting action that is often described as slicing rather than snipping. It requires careful maintenance but rewards it with exceptional feel and longevity.
Who Mina Shears Is For
Mina Shears is positioned at the premium end of the professional market. These scissors are best suited to experienced stylists who already know their preferred size and style, and who want to invest in tools that will perform at the highest level for years. They are not entry-level scissors — they are scissors for professionals who have outgrown their previous pair.
